Ratatan multiplayer and cross-play

Ratatan supports offline single-player and online co-op for up to four players. It does not support local co-op on one system. The publisher FAQ says console online play requires Nintendo Switch Online, PlayStation Plus, or an Xbox Game Pass plan that includes online multiplayer. Check your plan’s current benefits rather than assuming every Game Pass tier qualifies.

The newest 16 October 2026 publisher notice says cross-play between Steam, PS5, Xbox Series X|S, and Switch 2 is being worked on and needs platform approval. It does not commit to a launch date.

The older launch FAQ and v1.1.9 notes say Steam, Switch 2, and Xbox cross-play is supported, with PS5 planned. Nintendo also displays a cross-platform tag. Because the newer announcement conflicts with those claims, this page does not guarantee any cross-platform pairing is currently operational. Do not buy different-platform copies solely on the older tag. Same-platform online co-op is a separate feature.

In the multiplayer menu choose friend matchmaking, then enter the host’s shared room code. The FAQ also lists platform invitations on Steam, PS5, and Xbox. Everyone must finish updating before joining: different installed versions can prevent matchmaking.

The Steam system requirements call for open or moderate, non-symmetric NAT. Check router and network restrictions if joining fails; do not disable your firewall or publish credentials. The 16 October notice acknowledges connection and disconnection problems under investigation, so NAT is not the only possible cause.

Report your platform, game version, and what happened through the publisher’s feedback form or support email. Multiplayer progress is saved to your own save, but the FAQ says saves cannot be shared between platforms. Welcome Mode is disabled in co-op.
