How to play Ratatan

Commands on a four-beat bar

The community command page, checked 16 October 2026, documents Onbeat and Offbeat timing, a four-beat loop, and Fall In, Jump, Attack, Guard, Hustle Tech 1, and Hustle Tech 2. Match the displayed in-game command pattern to the music; this is not a verified platform-specific button chart. The wiki’s older sections may not reflect every full-release adjustment.

Maintaining rhythm builds toward Fever, when the music and party actions change. The official character page calls the magic instrument a Melodium (奏具), and the character ability a Ratatan Skill. The instrument is not itself a skill name. See the character index for the different leaders and their Cobuns.

A first session

Choose a Ratatan and Cobun party, leave Rataport, follow the command rhythm, then return to improve your adventure upgrades. The official FAQ recommends Options > Audio > Calibration for timing trouble, Welcome Mode for a gentler start, and Ratatan Dock / Support Desk upgrades when repeated defeats slow progress. Welcome Mode is unavailable in co-op, but changing it does not alter the story.

After the first clear, set Oath Level to at least 1 in Goddess Games to unlock Episode 2; the FAQ says later episodes require increasing Oath Level. The v1.1.9 notes add Episodes 3 and 4, with World 6 and the story’s final boss. Clear Episode 2 for Episode 3, then Episode 3 for Episode 4; the game’s Help records their introductory progression tutorials.

Co-op is online for up to four players, not local split-screen. Crossplay availability is disputed between the older FAQ and the 16 October announcement, which says four-platform support is still being worked on without a date. Do not assume a particular platform pair works; see multiplayer. The same notice confirms a Bonboya Gate display bug blocking Episode 3; the boss guide separates that issue from combat progression.
